my life with the pandemic
As both a student and an employee of MSU - I've been receiving correspondence from the university at multiple levels and from multiple perspectives. Communication is an area that Spartans seem to be doing a great job of in this time. I get messages from my program, college, MSU's president, my employer, boss, and other colleagues. One of the messages that I have been happy to see as a theme in some of the correspondence is care (for self and others).

At the beginning of March, my family moved across the state because we purchased a business, which my partner had to shut down after only working eight business days. I think its probably stressful enough to move to a new place, navigate a new town, move and unpack all your things - without a pandemic, but COVID has meant laying off our new employees, my GA stipend being our primary source of income, and not being able to access the small "village" of support we do have in the area (we have a new baby as well).

At the same time, I'm starting back in my GAship (virtually) after parental-leave, am working on final edits of my PhD dissertation and planning for a virtual defense, and looking for a job. I honestly can't picture a better time to be on the market (#sarcasm). That being said, there have been some particular individuals who have really shown up to support me (and other Spartans) with unconditional caring and compassion. Over the past few years, given MSU's recent events, my blood was starting to tint back to red (from green of course), but I'm feeling my Spartan Spirit renewing from my interactions with these individuals - AND I'll be recognizing them via the "Thank an Educator" form on this site!
