Hello! I am Anne Baker and today I will be hosting an AMA on designing elearning modules. I currently work for MSU Extension as an learning and talent devleopment specialist, and because we have 600+ MSU employees dispersed across the state of Michigan, I spend a lot of time designing and delivering elearning modules. Before my current position, I worked as an instructional designer in private industry. I also have worked a lot with language teaching and the use of technology to support language learners. My favorite authoring tool is Articulate Storyline, but good elearning modules can be created in many ways. Let's have a conversation about elearning modules!

Example Basic Needs Syllabus Statement

Any student in this class who experiences difficulty affording groceries or accessing sufficient food to eat every day, or who lacks a safe and stable place to live, and believes this may affect their performance in our course, is urged to contact an academic advisor for support. You may also contact the MSU Student Food Bank (http://foodbank.msu.edu) for help getting access to healthy foods. Furthermore, if you are experiencing any other challenges with basic needs, you may also notify me, and I will work to connect you with any further resources that I have access to.

The above is an example of a basic needs statement that you can include in your syllabus, from an actual course, using language developed from an MSU Basic Needs & Advising Workshop. The CTLI is working on a template Basic Needs statement for our syllabus resources playlist https://iteach.msu.edu/pathways/364/playlist and I'll update this post once it's available.

I've heard that other universities are getting private or enterprise versions of AI tools (ChatGPT and Bing) to address many of the issues raised in the Usage Policy. Is MSU moving in that direction? If so, is there a timeframe?

WHile waiting for my wife to bring home East African food for (Friday) dinner, I came across this new post on generative AI from the folks at Conn Sense Education and thought it might be of interest to people here at MSU's iTeach:

Here is a downloadable file of the Center for Teaching and Learning Innovation (CTLI) mid-semester feedback survey sample questions. You can also access the Google Doc here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bvWBucqNfRfc938QekLlealPf4XbIbBCg1Bz5UgwUjY/edit?usp=sharing

Please note that there are colleges and units across MSU's campus that are already offering support to their instructors in collecting formative feedback. This effort is to complement these services and make them accessible to the broader MSU instructor community. Feel free to use these questions verbatim, or tailor to best suit your course(s).

ELLIE - I had an amazing experiential learning experience (HA) as an undergrad at MSU, but I lucked into it. It just so happened to be amazing (but I didn't sign up for it because I knew it was experiential). Do you have suggestions for A) educators to communicate if/how their offerings are experiential or B) how learners can find such offerings?

SARAH - Thanks for joining AMAs this morning! I have a couple of questions. 1) What is included in "co-curricular" activities? Is this any and all things a learned participates in that is outside of class? Maybe you could share some examples? 2) How can I as an MSU educator be more intentional about encouraging/valuing co-curricular experiences for learners?

Good morning Teaching Toolkit Tailgate! I'm Ellie Louson, your AMA host for Sept 1st. Ask me anything about experiential learning in undergrad courses. I don't know everything, but I am glad to share what I've learned facilitating experiential courses at MSU under the Spartan Studios project: the good, the bad, and the surprising. At last year's tailgate we made stuff out of Play-Doh and I want today to be just a much fun!
