As part of my ongoing efforts to provide students with meaningful feedback on their individual reflections each week plus their three big collaborative projects AND get them to think about their approach to learning, I have used various open-ended metacognitive questions based on Bloom's revised taxonomy. Here is an useful link to ten such prompts from the Teach Thought website that I have used this semester, albeit in slightly modified form to move the questions away from simple yes-no answers. 🧠 Students Might Off-Load Critical Thinking to AI
This study found that using AI didn’t change students’ intrinsic motivation to learn. However, they did find that AI tended to cause “metacognitive laziness”. In other words, to avoid te work of critical thinking that AI is supposed to free them up to do.

ASK ME ANYTHING - Kristen Mapes - Building your digital presence and website development

There are many ways to cultivate your digital presence as a scholar, and it often comes down to making decisions about what audience you are trying to reach and what activity will be manageable for you now and moving forward. In my work, I lead an 8-week long Digital Fellows program that works with faculty, staff, and graduate students to strategically develop their digital presence based around their own professional goals. I can speak to the Domains Initiative at MSU, which provides server space and website creation support, as well as to the brand-new MSU Commons, a social network and open access platform that connects MSU scholars with a wider community of over 23,000 scholars from around the world, and which also serves as MSU's institutional repository for open access materials.

These articles inspired some head-on, eye-opening look at issues at the crux of teaching and learning: Self-reflection, assessment, roles of the affective domain in teaching and learning, and more. If we had taken pre- and post- tests, I'm pretty sure I'd see movement in myself on multiple spectra. Thanks, group!

Welcome to our new members! We are happy to have you along for the ride. Marohang and I plan on running the community for the 2023-2024 academic year as 'Digital Collaborative Learning for the 21st Century 2.0.' Keep your eyes and ears open for upcoming meetings as we get into late August this summer. In the meantime, here is a link to our finalized Call for Papers for an upcoming special issue of the Journal of Global Literacies, Technologies, and Emerging Pedagogies.
