Sure you can upload video directly into D2L, but should you? MSU has a campus license for Kaltura MediaSpace which is media streaming server similar to YouTube. Kaltura provides commercial-free video streaming with the ability to make your content public, private or restricted to the internal MSU community. Learn how you can upload your content to Kaltura.

Understanding Natural Recovery vs. PTSD" is a fact sheet from the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies which provides an overview of how people are affected by trauma, factors that help people recover naturally, and treatments for those who do not recover from symptoms of PTSD naturally.

Stokes and I are finalizing our agenda for our meeting this Friday, and in order to prevent this from being a 3-hour meeting, we're winnowing down my attempts to ask the wordiest questions possible. I couldn't bear to cut the question below entirely though, so I'm posting it here to see if it sparks any asynchronous discussion!

Towards the end of Ch. 2, Museus, Griffin, and Quaye note that “calls for the elimination of cultural centers and organizations in order to create more opportunities for engagement across difference and fewer options for self-segregation do not acknowledge the important positive role that these organizations play in the lives of Students of Color. In fact, given the positive outcomes stemming from student participation and leadership in culturally-based organizations, institutions must begin or continue to support their goals and efforts” (28).

MSU has recently been in the news for plans to construct a freestanding multicultural center to expand the footprint of spaces currently provided in the MSU Union. (We may also recall that MSU made national headlines for closing its 90-year-old women’s lounge in 2016, under various external pressures.) [Links to both stories below]

Our Spring Conference on teaching and learning was focused on the guiding philosophy of our Teaching Center: Engaging and Equitable Education for All. This philosophy not only guides our center's educational development and pedagogical strategies but also reflects our commitment to creating learning environments where every student feels valued and empowered. Indeed, it's at the core of MSU’s mission to ensure that all students can succeed, and the work educators do is central in the pursuit of that mission.

The conference was a day not just to celebrate successes in the classroom, but also to offer sincere thanks for the work Spartan educators do to make MSU a place of deep and meaningful learning. Educators are well aware of the powerful role gratitude plays in higher ed. Gratitude is not just about saying 'thank you.' It is about acknowledging the hard work and passion of everyone involved in the educational endeavor—recognizing that each contribution, no matter how small it might seem, enriches our students’ collective experience and understanding.

I’ve seen that enrichment play out in my own family over the past four years. Just last weekend my son graduated from James Madison College. His growth as a writer, a thinker, a critic, and a leader has been remarkable to watch. His college experience was defined by all the things that make MSU so great – football games, RSOs, dorm food, parking tickets, an unforgettable study abroad experience, wicked winter walks between Wells Hall and Case. But ask him today what stood out the most and he’d without question say it was in the classroom where he changed the most. His experience is typical of so many of the 6,200 students that walked across stages all last weekend. They leave here more prepared to thrive and lead because of what MSU’s educators gave them day in and day out in class. And it’s because of those thousands of changed lives that it’s so important to pause on occasion to thank educators.

CTLI’s “Thank an Educator” initiative, which launched 2018, exemplifies the ethos of gratitude that I hope to elevate in the Teaching Center. Since it's inception over 900 educators have received notes of gratitude for the excellent work they do. They all are testaments to the varied ways in which education can impact the lives of the members of the Spartan community. How are you using technology to build and sustain virtual communities, at MSU and beyond MSU?

I'm asking because I have really struggled to answer this for my own grad students and colleagues, I'm frustrated with insufficient answers from MSU IT, and I don't have time to experiment with every tool out there! This question is about connecting and collaborating beyond the level of an individual class. Do you just rely on email and maybe a shared folder somewhere? Do you use Teams with colleagues? Do you have a Team or other online group for all the students in your program? How do you connect with alumni? Do you have social media channels, groups, etc.? Do you use a platform to collaborate with colleagues at other institutions?

Hello! My name is Sarah Schultz and I serve as the Director of My Spartan Story, MSU’s new co-curricular record. I am elated to be your #ama host for September 30! At MSU, we know students are participating in beyond-the-classroom experiences where learning is occurring such as jobs, leadership positions, student organizations, and more. Beginning this fall, students will be formally recognized for their engagement and learning through My Spartan Story and the Spartan Experience Record, an official MSU document which students can request through the Registrar’s Office alongside their transcript. As a new initiative at MSU, I am happy to answer questions on co-curricular experiences, how you can get involved with My Spartan Story, and all things beyond-the-classroom learning.

Final exam info for courses offering an exam
You may offer a final exam in your course during the semester's exam period, which is held following the last week of classes. Final exams are typically scheduled for the same day, time period, and room as the scheduled course, if possible. According to the MSU Code of Teaching Responsibility, course instructors must include the date and location of any final examination in the syllabus.

You can locate your course's final exam details on the MSU Office of the Registrar website https://reg.msu.edu, either under "Final Exams" within the Instructor Systems menu of the Faculty & Staff section or in the Schedule of Classes entry under the Enrollment & Registration section. Once logged in to Instructor Systems, you can select the semester and course to see your final exam details, as well as a link to correct any errors.

The Instructor Systems will also show you the names of any students with an exam conflict and/or who have three or more exams on the same day. You can encourage students in either situation to contact the Academic Student Affairs Office in their college for help managing conflicts or arranging for an alternate time; the MSU exam policy states that a student can't be required to take more than two exams in one day.
