Hello everyone!
We wanted to reach out to let you know that we are excited to welcome guest speaker Jonathan Ritz to our Equitable Pedagogy Learning Community meeting tomorrow morning. Jonathan is a licensed counselor that serves as the College of Arts & Letters’ Director of Student Wellness. We would love for you to join us and hear from Jonathon about how to best support our students to be more resilient and how to cope with and move past failure.
His presentation will be Friday November 17 from 10:00am-11:00am.
We have two ways for you to join us:

Digital Collaborative Learning for the 21st Century

Our learning community will examine the increasing importance of digital collaborative learning for 21st-century learners, student success, and a smooth transition to global digital ecology/economy after graduation. Related pedagogical activities will include how we might utilize digital collaborative learning to a greater degree in our courses for other leading-edge pedagogical intentions. Beside the OFASD website, we will publicize our community via email at the start of the 2022-2023AY in August and September and invite interested parties to join us.
First Meeting: Friday, September 30, 2022 at 10 am for approximately 90 minutes. Upcoming meeting days/times TBA according to participant needs or preferences where possible

Pre-Class Survey
It's helpful to survey your students before class begins to learn about their accessibility and/or technology needs. This contributes to students feeling welcome in your course and gives you practical information about both learners' needs and whether to follow-up with specific resources. There is a template accessibility survey (titled "[COURSE#] Accessibility pre-start Survey") within the CTLI's library of surveys that you can copy and adapt to your own course; instructions on how to access and make your own version are here: https://iteach.msu.edu/iteachmsu/groups/iteachmsu/stories/2810

The WOCI and the English Department will be co-hosting a workshop on trauma-informed classroom techniques for graduate students on Tuesday, February 28th at 1pm via Zoom. This is a follow up to the discussion that was held on February 17th (Feminist strategies for teaching during a crisis). All are welcome. Dr. LeConté Dill, who will be facilitating the workshop, will be paying particular attention to how womxn of color navigate teaching in the days and weeks following a traumatic event. This workshop aims to provide a space for graduate student instructors to learn how to show up for their students with a politics of care and a particular sensitivity to what students have just been through here at MSU. MSU's Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives hosts "Learn at Lunch"!
Held monthly during the academic year, the Learn at Lunch series presents informal seminars on a variety of topics related to inclusion, social justice and equity. Everyone is welcome to bring their lunch and join the conversation.
The Learn at Lunch series is sponsored in collaboration with the Academic Advancement Network, the Office of the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education, the Graduate School and MSU Libraries. The sessions bring important topics related to inclusive teaching to the campus community, with a focus on presenting best practices and fostering dialogue in an effort to build inclusive communities.

CIRCLE welcomes tenure-track faculty, non-tenure track faculty, academic specialists, postdocs, and staff members from across campus.
Applicants for affiliation in fall 2023 should submit a 1-page letter of inquiry (as a PDF) and a current CV no later than November 11, 2023 to ORI.Circle@msu.edu. Please use “Affiliate Fall 23” in the subject line. Letters should include:
-Your current research/teaching/engagement interests
-Your history of interdisciplinary activity and/or your current interest in interdisciplinarity
-How you hope to engage with CIRCLE as an affiliate faculty member

the Center for Integrative Studies in the Arts and Humanities invites you to attend a workshop on Alternate Grading April 21st, from 10 to 11:30 am via Zoom.
We are honored to welcome Prof. Nicole Coleman of Wayne State University to run the workshop. If you are interested in learning ways to prioritize learning over grading and to make assessments more meaningful for students, you may want to consider a new grading system. Coleman will lead an interactive program on her experiences with teaching courses in both the Specs Grading and Ungrading structures. She will provide some information on how each system works and the theory behind them. She will then guide educators in adjusting an assignment or a syllabus to work with these methods. Please bring a rubric and/or a syllabus to the session to be able to participate fully in this workshop.
